Ted Brandt (MBA ’87), Founder and CEO, Marathon Capital
Ted Brandt is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Marathon Capital, a banking boutique established in 1999, focused on the global energy and infrastructure markets. The firm provides financial advice in the areas of M&A, re-structuring, project financing and raising private capital. Marathon Capital is a three-time recipient of the “Best Renewable Asset M&A Advisor” award in Power Finance & Risk’s Annual Power Finance Deals and Firms Awards (2013-15).
He spends the majority of his time working with his colleagues to deliver the Firm’s services to Clients and their Boards. Since inception Marathon has been involved in well over 100 major transactions including the original sale of the 1,500 MW Alta wind complex, the sale of numerous wind and solar development companies, portfolios and projects and the debt and equity financing of the La Bufa I 120 MW’s project in Zacatecas, Mexico.
Mr. Brandt graduated in 1984 with a BA in Economics from Oberlin College, where he is now a Trustee. He also holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s, Booth School of Business. He carries his Series 7, 24, 63, 79 and 99 securities licenses.
RJ Johnson (MBA ’11), Executive Director & Head of Origination, NextEra Energy Resources
RJ Johnson is Executive Director and Head of Origination for U.S Wind Development for NextEra Energy Resources. RJ’s experience ranges from wind development to commercial development of wholesale and distributed energy storage systems. He has led successful partnerships with utility, public power and commercial/industrial customers across various industries.
Prior to joining NextEra Energy Resources, RJ served as a Captain in the U.S. Army where he held roles as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Adjutant and Assistant Operations Officer in the 4th Infantry Division, including multiple oversees deployments.
RJ holds a degree in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
